We have plenty of exciting plans for the year ahead here at Shropshire Autism Service, and we can’t wait to share all of them with you when the time comes…

For now, it is time to share some more information about our most exciting project – a brand new Autism Centre.

New Autism Centre

Work on the location of the new centre, in a three-storey building at The Hollies site in Shrewsbury, will begin in April 2020.

The Autism Centre will provide diagnostic and therapeutic services for children and adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) – and will also be used as a hub to bring together ASD groups and organisations across Shropshire.

One-stop shop for support

Dr Lisa Williams says she wants it to become “a one stop shop for support”.

She said: “Bringing specialist services, support groups and charities together will mean we can be more effective in helping children and adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder. We want families to see The Hollies as a place for clinical diagnosis, all the way through to somewhere for a cup of coffee and a listening ear.

“The aim of Shropshire Autism Service is to give children and adults with ASD access to the best quality care, at the right time.

Working together to provide the best possible support

“Once that diagnosis is made support groups and charities become essential for families and we want to make sure that we are all working together to provide the best possible support.

“The centre will also allow us to widen our offerings in specialist therapies. There are lots of innovative ways that we can be working with people with ASD to improve their wellbeing.

“Offerings like this are not widely available elsewhere which is why are trying to make it as accessible as possible, by running group therapy as well as one-to-one sessions.”

New Outreach service for schools

Plans are also underway with a view to offering outreach services for schools across the county.

As you can imagine, we are extremely excited for this new facility and can’t wait to move in! For now it is business as usual and our appointments will continue to take place at Charlesworth Court in Shrewsbury.
